Daly, Jimenez and Montgomerie return to the American Family Insurance Championship

They join Stricker, Kelly, Langer and others for the June 22-24 event.

The 2018 American Family Insurance Championship is shaping up to have one of the premier fields on this year’s PGA TOUR Champions schedule, with the recent commitments of John Daly, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Colin Montgomerie.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Player host Steve Stricker, Madison resident Jerry Kelly, Bernhard Langer, David Toms and Joe Durant previously committed to the American Family Insurance Championship, to be played June 22-24 at University Ridge Golf Course. Eligible players have until June 15 to sign up for the championship.

Other early commitments include PGA TOUR Champions tournament winners Marc Calcavecchia, Steve Flesch, Fred Funk, Paul Goydos, Jay Haas, Gene Sauers, Esteban Toledo and Duffy Waldorf.

John Daly, a fan favorite due to his monster drives and flashy wardrobe, captured his first PGA TOUR Champions title at the 2017 Insperity Invitational at The Woodlands. He launched his PGA TOUR career with a surprise win in the 1991 PGA Championship, followed by a second major title at the 1995 Open Championship. He recorded three other PGA TOUR victories, the last being the 2004 Farmers Insurance Open near San Diego.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, the popular Spaniard, is a four-time winner on PGA TOUR Champions, including wins in 2017 and 2016 at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. He has 21 international titles and has competed four times for the European Ryder Cup team.

Colin Montgomerie, of Scotland, has raised the winner’s trophy six times on PGA TOUR Champions, including two titles in 2017 at the Japan Airlines Championship and the SAS Championship. A 2013 inductee into the World Golf Hall of Fame, he holds 41 international wins, has played eight times for the European Ryder Cup team and served as team captain in 2010.
