Langer, Stricker and Kelly commit to the 2018 American Family Insurance Championship

Summary

Top players David Toms and Joe Durant will also play.

PGA TOUR Champions legend Bernhard Langer is returning to the American Family Insurance Championship, and he will be joined by the top four players on tour this year: tournament host Steve Stricker, Madison resident Jerry Kelly, David Toms and Joe Durant.

Langer, Stricker, Kelly, Toms and Durant are among the early commitments to the 2018 PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship, to be played June 22-24 at University Ridge Golf Course. The final field will be set on June 15.

“We’re anticipating an incredible field again this year. Steve, Jerry and Joe are off to an impressive start on PGA TOUR Champions this year. We look forward to welcoming David Toms for the first time, and Bernhard Langer’s record speaks for itself,” said Nate Pokrass, tournament director.

Bernhard Langer played in the inaugural American Family Insurance Championship in 2016, but did not enter last year’s event due to a family commitment. A native of Germany and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, Langer is a 36-time winner on PGA TOUR Champions and four-time winner of the Charles Schwab Cup, the Tour’s season-long competition. He is a two-time winner of the Masters and holds 61 international titles.

Steve Stricker leads this year’s Charles Schwab Cup standings, claiming his first two PGA TOUR Champions titles at the Cologuard Classic and the Rapiscan Systems Classic. Stricker is a 12-time winner on the PGA TOUR, was the winning captain of the 2017 U.S. Presidents Cup team, and will be an assistant captain on the U.S. Ryder Cup team for the second time later this year in Paris.

Steve Stricker will return as player/host for the 2018 American Family Insurance Championship.

Jerry Kelly is second in this year’s Charles Schwab Cup standings, with a win at the season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, followed by a second-place finish at the Cologuard Classic. He earned PGA TOUR Champions Rookie of the Year honors in 2017 with two wins and eight other top-10 finishes. His resume also includes three wins on the PGA TOUR.

David Toms will make his debut at the American Family Insurance Championship. He is third in this year’s Charles Schwab Cup standings, with four top-5 finishes, including a tie for second at the Chubb Classic. He holds 13 PGA TOUR titles, including one major, the 2001 PGA Championship.

Joe Durant is No. 4 on the Charles Schwab Cup money list, thanks in large part to his win at the Chubb Classic and two other top-10 finishes. He has three career PGA TOUR Champions victories, and finished tied for third in last year’s American Family Insurance Championship.
